About Us

We grow pomegranates in our own orchards and bottle them at our own facility. No middlemen in between.

Melitene began in pomegranate orchards in Ortaca, in the province of Muğla, Türkiye. On the same land we grow fruit and raise livestock. Everything we sell comes from here; we do not buy fruit from other growers and sell it under our name.

Why our own orchards?

Pomegranate is a sensitive fruit. When it is watered, when it is picked, how many hours it waits after leaving the branch — all of it shows up in the taste. Because the orchard is ours, we make every one of those decisions. We plan the harvest by ripeness and process the fruit the same day it is picked.

Three product lines, one producer

  • Fresh pomegranate — Graded by calibre, individually labelled export cases.
  • Pomegranate juice — Cold pressed, no additives, no preservatives. 250 ml glass bottle.
  • Livestock — Lambs raised on our own pastures.

What "no additives" means

There is nothing in our juice but pomegranate juice. No sugar, no water, no concentrate, no preservatives, no colouring. Because we cold press it, the aroma and nutritional value are not damaged by heat. When you open the bottle, it smells like the fruit in the orchard.

Where we sell

We sell directly to consumers in Türkiye, and to wholesale buyers and retail chains abroad. We also produce under contract for other brands, with their own recipes and their own labels.

The Ortaca plain

The Ortaca plain

We are in Ortaca, in the province of Muğla. This strip between the mountains and the valley floor gives pomegranate three things at once: a wide day-to-night temperature swing, alluvial soil that drains quickly, and a long season of sun.

For the arils to turn deep red and the sugar-acid balance to settle, the nights must be cool. Here that happens on its own; nothing has to be done to bring out the colour.

In the bottle the same day

In the bottle the same day

Our pressing and bottling facility sits among the orchards. Fruit picked from the branch reaches it within minutes and is pressed the same day.

We press cold; because no heat is applied, the aroma, colour and nutritional value stay as they were. The only thing that goes into the bottle is pomegranate juice — no sugar, no water, no concentrate, no preservative.

Livestock on the same land

Livestock on the same land

We use the sloping land beyond the orchards as pasture. Our flock spends most of the year there and keeps the grass between the orchard rows in check.

Growing crops and raising animals on the same land closes the loop: manure returns to the soil, and feed grown in that soil goes back to the animals. We have no need for synthetic fertiliser.
